Recipe: Rice Krispie Treats

Here is a classic recipe that everyone loves.  Last spring, I noted that the girls tennis team was famished before matches so I brought snacks.  As much as I tried to bring nutritious food, it wasn't easy.  Nutritious food has a shelf life, needs to be refrigerated is usually messy.  So, I opted with Plan B - waters, iced tea, pretzels and rice krispie treats.  AND the team LOVED the Rice Krispie Treats - they loved the homemade, but they even loved the store bought ones!
That got me thinking that there has to be variations to the traditional rice krispie treats- marshmallow, butter and cereal...
I found a few variations - using cocoa krispies or the berry krispies cereal (simple substitution) but what was most interesting was that you can easily make interesting variations using the basic recipe + instant pudding mix and 1/2 cup mix ins....
In addition, people don't just cut these into squares, they fill them in molds and also into cake pans and make them into cakes...Now, I prefer the bars.
Basic Recipe:
1/4 cup butter
3 cups mini marshmallows
6 cups rice krispies cereal.
Melt butter and marshmallows, stir in cereal, spread into greased pan.  Cut into squares when cool.

Stir in 1/2 - 1 cup chocolate chips, m n m's, or other yummy things.  
Sometimes, I stir in colored sprinkles

To basic recipe add, 1 pkg banana instant pudding + 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
To basic recipe add 1 pkg butterscotch instant pudding + 1 tsp vanilla
To basic recipe, mix in fruit loops and cap'n crunch cereal in addition to krispies.
