Autumn Bake a Cake

The perfect cake and it's lowfat, and pretty!
Simply bake an angel food cake--you can buy them at the store, but they use imitation vanilla flavor, which is odd and preservatives that make the cake gummy, so I bake it from a mix.
Simply add cold water to the mix and beat with either a stand mixer or a hand mixer. Pour it into a clean, dry angel food cake pan (not a bundt pan, the sides are too shallow and the cake will not climb) and bake until firm.   Then invert the cake while still in the pan on a long necked wine bottle and cool.  We love buttercream frosting on angel food, but truthfully, the buttercream is too heavy for the light cake..So I sometimes make a glaze as I did here.
Glaze- powdered sugar, lemon juice, water and vanilla.  I added really cool food coloring that really made it autumn-like.
This is McCormick's special food colors only available for fall.  The colors are deep shades of rust, forest green, burgundy and chestnut.  I used the rust and burgundy and loved the effect!
I couldn't find these colors at the supermarket and got them at Big Lots, so there is a good chance that they are not being made any longer.  Too bad!  The colors are vibrant and very autumnal.
