Seaquest Burgers have been a long tradition at our home.
Seaquest was a tv show from the '90s based on underwater exploration. The show took place in the future and society was a little different as it was more of a liberal "utopia" where people were strict vegetarians as they were enlightened...
So, during the course of one episode, one of the crew acquired some sirloin on the black market and spent the entire episode preparing to make a hamburger, acquiring ketchup, a grill etc. I don't know what it was about the episode, (we must have been hungry) but I could almost smell the beef cooking! The final burger looked delicious, layered with ripe tomato, crisp lettuce, sweet onion... you get the idea.
Well, in the show, the crewman never got to eat the hamburger, as it was confiscated as illegal at the end of the episode!
Luckily, we live in an era where I can easily acquire ground sirloin for a burger. These are super delicious...
4 Kaiser rolls, sliced
1-2 pounds ground sirloin or 93% lean ground beef, shaped into 4 patties
lettuce, washed, dried and torn into slices to fit on the rolls
sliced tomatoes (sprinkled with salt & pepper to season)
thin slices of red onion or sweet onion if you prefer
8 slices dill pickles
Tarter Sauce - 1 tsp mayonaise + 3 T pickle relish + squirt of lemon juice
Form patties of ground beef, trying to handle the meat too much. Place on hot grill and cook as desired. I like to make them medium well - Jon likes his well done.
Toast rolls lightly. Place a spoonful of tarter sauce on the bottom roll. Add pickles, then add lettuce and onion. Top with patty, then tomato and top of roll.
