It is an (edible) decoration for outdoor birds for the yard.
Here is another one shaped into a wreath. Wouldn't a tree with these edible ornaments look lovely in the garden or yard?
There are many recipes out there...some easier than others.
Smear peanut butter on a pine cone and roll in birdseed.
1/3 cup gelatin
1 1/2 cups water
8 cups birdseed
Mix gelatin & water on low heat until gelatin is melted and clear. Remove from heat and stir in the birdseed. Stir well - no dry mixture.
Fill cookie cutters with seed mixture, packing tightly.
Refrigerate for 2 - 4 hours. Dry on baking rack for 3 days. Hang outside.
2 pounds suet
1 cups peanut butter
1/3 cup molasses
1/4 cup bacon grease
1 pound oats
1 cup cornmeal
Bird seed - combination seeds, sunflower, etc.
Melt suet in a pan over medium heat. Strain into a large bowl. Add peanut butter, molasses, bacon grease, oats and cornmeal. Add enough seeds until mixture can be rolled into balls.
Roll into 2 inch balls and coat with additional birdseed.
Place outside for the birds.
Warning: Squirrels, mice and other animals will feast on these treats as well.
