The Big Wind Record Falls...

Mt Washington held the record for the largest recorded gust of wind...until this week. Well, actually until 16 years ago, but the stats were just released on Monday.
The "Big Wind" was clocked at 231 mph back in 1934 and remained the fastest recorded wind for 6 decades.

Now, it has been reported that in 1996, in Australia, a 253 mph wind was recorded during a cyclone, Cyclone Olivia.
It went overlooked, until the the climatologists were preparing for a summit in Turkey.

Well, Mt Washington still holds the record in the western hemisphere....
