This past weekend we celebrated Jon's parents 82nd birthdays! We made them a lunch buffet, as they are very tired by the end of the day and they prefer to have company over during the day.
So, I made an assortment of things, a "tasting menu" of sorts: Shrimp Cocktail, Caprese Salad with Basil Vinaigrette, Brown Sugar + Cream Cheese Jalapenos wrapped in Bacon, Maple Salmon Bites and Caesar Salad.
Then, for dessert, we had birthday cakes! For Mrs. Mellen, I made an angel food cake topped with a tri-colored glaze. And for Mr. Mellen...
A Very Chocolate Cake. Two thin layers of chocolate filled with chocolate mousse and then a chocolate glaze. I topped it with chocolate shavings (to resemble a birds nest) and chocolate bird eggs.
