Jon & Rick played in the Upper Valley Open in the first round. They had a very close match, but defeated their opponents 6-4, 7-5 to move to the next round.
On Sunday, they played in the semi-finals in another close match, but lost in three sets.
We have but 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, (11 days actually). The girls have only a few days of school.
The high school football team won their division championships and somewhat surprisingly, the entire community was abuzz with the news. The team has been in existence in various forms for 13 years, but this is their first state championship. There is so much support in the community -financial and emotional -- for the boys that play on the team, the coaches, the spouses of the coaches, and anyone who is considered a "booster".
Personally, I root for the home teams - but keep it in perspective. The amount of $$ spent on this team is really ridiculous. Even the amount of attention given to this sport is ridiculous. The write ups in the papers read like war stories with the coaches and players being portrayed as larger than life heroes.
I feel that it is great for these kids to be happy with their victories, but let's keep this in perspective. They won a sporting event during their high school tenure. Now, let's hope they apply this same dedication to their education, their sense of decency and their future.
