Four alligators have been found roaming free throughout Long Island. Two alligators were found in a Baldwin, NY Pathmark Parking Lot, another in front of a Mastic home and a fourth on a Wading River golf course. Authorities believe that someone is someone is buying them as tiny creatures and then dumping them when they grow too large to keep as pets. It is illegal to own alligators in New York.
Chargers can be filed against the perpetrator for negligence, abandonment and endangering the public.
There is a $2,000 reward for information to find the culprit.
Two of the four alligators are being sent to a Florida sanctuary. Another gator is being kept in an aquarium until it grow large enough to be sent to a sanctuary.
