Drawing in Stages
Here's a drawing that I did using colored pencils in my sketchbook.
I penciled in the shapes and then outlined them with a permanent marker. Then I colored in the flower petals, starting with the darkest purple and leaving the edges very light.
I did the leaves next, adding in darker green closer to the veins and the top of the flowers. I went over the flower petals with a white pencil to make the edges pop.
I colored in the pot with oranges, reds and browns to make it look like terra cotta. At the last minute, I quickly sketched some color into the background.
Finally, I went over the entire image with a dark pencil to give more shadows to the deepest purple parts of the flowers and some shadow on the leaves.
