Operation Swill

In New Jersey, the investigators raided over 29 bars after receiving a number of complaints that top shelf liquors weren't authentic.  Investigators found that numerous bars were best case swapping out cheaper liquors for the top shelf brands (but charging full prices) and worst case using dirty water or even brown colored rubbing alcohol in place of the "good stuff".
Investigators visited over bars and restaurants and ordered booze served "neat" that is, with no mixers or ice. They tested the samples, discreetly and also sent samples to the brand manufacturers for verification.  They seized over 1,000 open bottles of booze.  While this was not a criminal investigation, the bars risk loosing their liquor licenses.
