Here's a little sketch I did from an odd shape, turning it into a flying bird. I used colored pencils and a fun color to make it pop and then added a frame and some sky.
I played around with the colors, muting them and adding some texture to the background. You can really see my pencil strokes here.
With this one, I played around with the background colors, adding some blues, grays and teals which I chose to emphasize the bird's eye.
Lastly, I played with the texture, adding layers of dots, lace and swirls to add more interest. While your eye is still drawn to the bird, you can't help but notice his surroundings.
