Days of the Blackbird

Tomie dePaola is a talented author and artist who has written many children's books and done countless illustrations. He is known around the world and we have been fortunate enough to live near him. Tomie was a customer at my father's restaurant and the two developed a friendship. They enjoyed talking to each other about their shared Italian heritage. Through the years, my siblings and I grew up with "Tomie dePaola Day" at the library and were fortunate to have him visit the library to read his books. One time my father shared an old tale of the Blackbird and the artist transformed it into a colorful, amazing story in his book children's book Days of the Blackbird by Tomie dePoala.
The story takes place during the coldest days of the year, late January...
And now, the town of Wilmot, NH, sponsored by the library is holding a Day of the Blackbird Festival from January 27, 2014 to January 31st.
Tomie dePaola is coming to the library to read his story to adults and children and they will follow with an art project.
The celebration continues with a special dinner at LaMeridiana. Seating is limited, but you can sign up at the library 603 - 526-6804 or wilmotlibrary@comcast.net.
