My brother challenged me to make this speckled cake for Easter that was featured on The Cake Blog.
I readily accepted the challenge.
After reading through the tutorial, I came up with some modifications on the technique.
I used the white cake recipe from The Joy of Cooking, (as a friend suggested) and baked three six inch round pans. I froze the cakes and will assemble them on Easter morning.
The instructions suggested using either white chocolate and candy molds, model fondant or gum paste eggs, use hard boiled eggs, or use speckled candy eggs.
I had no luck finding egg shaped candy molds and don't like the taste of fondant, but I found speckled chocolate eggs.
The next steps are to frost the cake and speckle it. I'll use a buttercream frosting made with butter and powdered sugar. Pictures to come.
