Gingerbread Cookies Recipe

Here's another repost...
I decided to do some baking today, on account of the snow and Christmas and all. So, I made a half batch of gingerbread cookies and a half batch of royal icing.
I made just 3 shapes.... circles.
ornaments...
and angels....
Love the look of them. They are so pretty... The cookies are very spicy, so if you prefer a more mild cookie, reduce or eliminate the spices.

Gingerbread Cookies Recipe - (half batch)
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsp ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses

Combine flour, baking soda & baking powder. Mix butter & sugar in bowl. Stir in spices. Add egg & molasses. Add flour mixture. Divide dough in half and press between sheets of wax paper. Chill at least 2 hours.
When ready to bake, heat oven to 375. 
Roll out dough and cut with cutters. Small cookies take 6-8 minutes, medium size cookies take 8- -10 minutes and larger cookies take about 12 minutes.

Bake and let cookies cool completely.

Royal frosting - using meringue powder.
1/8 cup meringue powder
1/4 cup cold water
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Beat meringue powder & cold water for about 5 minutes.
Add vanilla & powdered sugar for 8 minutes. Mixture should be thin, not runny.
Pipe onto cooled cookies and let dry. Store in airtight container or in individual food safe bags.
